The poster beverage of winter in Germany, hot mulled wine is enjoyed at Christmas markets – and it’s easy to make at home. The counterpart of sangria in the summer, this hot, comforting drink is perfect for those chilly winter days. And our cranberry juice adds a distinctly Canadian touch to this heart-warming international beverage!
Mix water, sugar, cinnamon sticks and nutmeg in a large pan. Bring to a boil. Turn heat down to low and simmer for about 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, wash and peel the oranges, leaving orange peel in big pieces. Set aside.
Cut oranges in half and squeeze juice. Pour into the pan.
Poke cloves into pieces of orange peel. Add peel to the pan and simmer for 30 minutes.
Add wine and cranberry juice. Heat through.
Wine can be refrigerated for up to a week in a bottle with a tightly sealed stopper.
