Ingredients
For the organic cranberry syrup
80 ml (1/3 cup) Patience Fruit & Co Pure Cranberry Juice
80 ml (1/3 cup) white sugar or organic raw sugar
For the bloody cocktail
45 ml (1.5 oz) gin (preferably local)
45 ml (1.5 oz) organic cranberry syrup
25 ml (3/4 oz) freshly squeezed orange juice
Ice cubes
Cherries marinated in bourbon
Doesn’t this Halloween cocktail look bloody good? It’s a delicious drink to sip while you wait for those trick-or-treating goblins and witches. With a gin base (preferably local gin), it blends the classic flavours of cranberry and orange.
If there’s one day on the calendar when imagination has free rein, that would be Halloween. Our Halloween decoration and cranberry cocktail here are inspired by the Dexter series, with syringes serving as swizzle sticks (careful!).
To make an alcohol-free version (for kids and adults), replace the gin with the same quantity of sparkling water. If you’re making a round for the kids, be sure there are no needles on the syringes and fill them with cranberry syrup.

For the organic cranberry syrup
Bring cranberry juice and sugar to a gentle boil in a small pan. Once the sugar is completely dissolved, turn off the heat and let the syrup cool. At this stage, the syrup can be refrigerated for 2 weeks. -
For the bloody cocktail
Fill glass with ice cubes and add gin, orange juice and cranberry syrup. -
Serve with a brochette of cherries marinated in bourbon. Just for fun at Halloween, use a syringe instead of the classic metal stick (but be careful – you don’t want any pricked fingers).
