Vegetarian or Regular Deluxe Hot Dogs with Berry Sauerkraut

Ingredients

For the berry Sauerkraut:

28 oz can German Sauerkraut with White Wine

1 bag (4 oz) Patience Fruit & Co Whole Berry Blend  (Wild Blueberries, Goldenberries & Tart Cherries blend)

 

For the honey mustard:

1/4 cup Dijon mustard

2 tsp liquid honey

 

For the hot dogs:

8 top quality fresh sausages, or 8 vegetarian sausages

2 baguettes, cut into 4 or 6 pieces

Cooking time 15 minutes Portions 6 to 8 servings

Whether you choose a hot dog made with delicious, fresh sausages made by your local butcher or vegetarian sausages, you simply need to use quality ingredients to transform an ordinary meal into an extraordinary one. Add a little color to your meal and balance the tartness of sauerkraut with naturally sweet berries: wild blueberries, cranberries, ground cherries or sour cherries. Light up the grill and the feast is on!

Steps

  1. In a 1-litre (4-cup) glass container, combine the sauerkraut and dried fruits. Let rest at least 1 hour at room temperature, or preferably 24 to 48 hours in the refrigerator. This resting period allows flavors to develop and dried berries to absorb liquid from the sauerkraut.

  2. Preheat the barbecue to medium heat.

  3. In a small bowl, combine the mustard and honey. Set aside.

  4. Set the sausages on the grill and cook 6 to 8 minutes, or for the period recommended by the sausage manufacturer.

  5. Grill the baguettes 1 to 2 minutes on each side.

  6. Serve the grilled hot dogs with honey mustard and berry sauerkraut.
